SWEETPEA F.O.R. ANIMALS, INC.

Sweetpea F.O.R. Animals, Inc. is a nonprofit, no-kill animal rescue organization. We take in animals who are on “death row” at other shelters, or whose owners can’t keep them but don’t want to surrender them to a kill shelter.
We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization [EIN 04-3550699] – all donations are fully tax deductible.

WHY DONATE?

We depend on your kind generosity. We are not affiliated with any other animal welfare organization and do not receive any government funding. Our revenue comes from donations, adoption and surrender fees, grants, and fundraising events. We do not make a profit from adoption fees or from boarding fees – these cover animal rescue, rehabilitation, vet costs and the cost of bedding, feeding, grooming, and training until an animal is adopted. Rescued animals often stay with us for many months and occasionally over a year. They arrive with untreated medical issues – the costs of rehabilitating and caring for a rescue animal can be substantial. Some of our dogs’ and cats’ breeds and natures are unrecognizable until they have been bathed, shaved, vetted and cuddled.

We suffered a devastating fire in November 2015. We lost the main animal shelter building – we now need donations and sponsorship to get back on our feet. Sweetpea had taken full ownership of the former Palatine Kennels a few days days before the blaze and we had plans to improve and upgrade the building that was lost in the fire. This was a really serious setback for us – we had just taken out a mortgage and were intending to use pet boarding fees to subsidize our rescue operation. Now we need financial contributions and the donation of professional services to rebuild the rescue shelter and to make animal rescue in our area a long-term reality.

Sweetpea meets a real need in our area that previously had no animal rescue or shelter of any type for abandoned animals. We never euthanize an animal that is healthy or can be treated, including behavioral rehabilitation. Veterinarian fees alone can cost a lot of money. One sick animal can clean out our whole month’s (or even quarter’s) operating budget. Please donate via our Paypal link (below), or email us at sweetpeafora@verizon.net, with other offers of help. Thank you for caring.

PayPal Giving Fund is another way to donate through PayPal.  Your donation actually goes to, and your receipts come from, PayPal Giving Fund, a different 501(c)3 organization.  Approximately 45 days later, they make a donation to Sweetpea Friends of Rutland Animals in the amount you donated to PayPal Giving Fund.  It seems like an unnecessary step, but by going that way they waive all the processing and transactions fees. .
