When the Sweetpea shelter burned to the ground on November 22, 2015, we never thought we would still be waiting to demolish and rebuild. We still don’t have an answer as to whether demolishing and removing all the rubble from the old shelter building will affect our rebuild status with the town of Paxton. Issues with zoning and setbacks got so confusing and complicated that we hired a law firm to work with the town. We are now at a point where they will be submitting an application to the Zoning Board of Appeals. We are hoping for a spot on their August agenda.
Sweetpea is planning an Open House, tentatively on August 6, so that residents of Paxton, especially our neighbors, and anyone else interested in learning about our rebuild plans can see our plans and have the opportunity to ask questions. Once we have a definite date and time, we will post it here and on our Facebook page, Sweetpea Friends of Rutland Animals.
