SUMMARY:Sweetpea Essay Contest
DESCRIPTION:Calling all budding authors\, poets\, and storytellers in your classes!\n\n\nWriting competitions are a great way to motivate students to write.\nThey give students a real world context for writing and also give students the chance to earn prizes.\nParticipating in writing contests can significantly contribute to the growth of middle school scholars (5th thru 8th grade may apply) by fostering their creativity and self-assurance.\n\n\nThrough the process of conceptualizing and articulating their thoughts on various topics\, students are encouraged to think outside the box\, explore diverse perspectives\, and develop their unique voice as writers.\n\n\nThis experience is invaluable in nurturing their writing abilities and enhancing their overall academic performance.\n\nEngaging in writing contests encourages students to delve into different genres\, styles\, and themes\, thereby expanding creative horizons.\nBy experimenting with various forms of expression\, such as poetry\, essays\, or fiction\, students can unleash their imagination and hone their storytelling skills.\n\nThis process not only fosters love for writing but also instills a sense of accomplishment that bolsters their confidence in expressing themselves through words.\n\nImagine writing a powerful letter\, just like Martin Luther King Jr.\, to someone who can make a real difference on an issue students care about. Here’s the challenge:\nStudents are to express what it meant to them to adopt a rescue dog\, or why they would want to rescue a shelter dog.\n\nWhy would they encourage other families to do so? What would it mean to them if they could adopt a dog?\nThey should write a 250-word letter (approximately 2 typed pages) explaining the issue\, why it matters\, and urge others to make the same decision.\nBe sure to include your name\, your pets name and a photo with your submission.\n\nAll essays will be on display at the Furry Friends Fashion Show (tentatively August 17th at the Hamilton Rod & Gun Club in Sturbridge)\n\n\n\nBeyond the prizes! First place will receive a $100 scholarship from Threads Boutique\, 2nd place will receive a $50 gift card to Petco for your furry friend.\nThe overall winner will have an option to be spotlighted at the event with their rescue.\n\n\n\nParticipating in writing competitions offers numerous benefits beyond just winning. It allows students to:\n\nReceive valuable feedback:\nMany competitions provide feedback from professional writers or educators\, helping students hone their skills.\nBoost your confidence:\nSubmitting work and gaining recognition can be incredibly empowering to students.\nGain experience and exposure:\nCompetitions can be stepping stones to future writing endeavors for students.\n\nSo\, what are you waiting for?\nShare these writing competitions with your students and see where their writing can take them.\n\nAll submissions must be typed and sent with a $10 entry fee by May 3\, 2025 to\nSweetpea\, % Deb Young\, 1090 Pleasant Street\, Paxton Ma 01612
