2nd Annual Golf Tournament After receiving many inquiries regarding another golf tournament the Sweetpea committee decided to request the help of June Derosier, former Sweetpea treasurer and very successful coordinator of last year's golf tournament. June graciously heeded our appeal for help and is working with Arni Casareale, Steve Miller, and other Sweetpea members to organize this year's tournament. The golf tournament will be held Saturday, September 28, 2003 at Quail Hollow Golf and Country Club in Oakham, with an Italian buffet to follow. Anyone interested in golfing, diner, sponsorships or donating raffle items please call Arni at (508)-886-2134 or Steve at (508)-886-6400 or (508)-886-5339. Golfers pay $85 to cover green fees, golf cart, and buffet! Registration begins at 7:00 AM with a Shot Gun start at 8:30 AM. Don't golf? For $25 you can still join us for the buffet at 1:30 PM. Become a sponsor! Champion: $500 (includes one foursome) Best in Breed: $250 Blue Ribbon: $100 Honorable Mention: $50 Shelter Pal: $25 Other donations gratefully accepted! Donate a raffle item. We'll gladly pick it up!
1st Annual Dog Walk On May 17, 2003 the first annual dog walk was held at Rutland State Park consisting of a one mile jaunt and a 3 mile walk along the trails. T-shirts were awarded to those walkers collecting $50 or more in pledges and a doggie bandanna was added for $100 or more. Thanks to all our participants (97 walkers / 114 dogs) we were able to raise $6600 for our Shelter Fund. A special Thank You to Lisa Sclar, who collected $1000 in pledges and was our top fundraiser. The Rutland postmistress, Pat Lachance was on hand and presented Dick Clark with a plaque of honor of his service to homeless animals. A fun day was had by all with a silent auction, raffle, prizes, refreshments for dogs and owners and music provided by the "Tom Cats". Following are the awards that were presented: Youngest walker: Bryna 9 months Oldest Walker: Bob 66 years old Youngest dog: Lily 7 months Oldest dog: Missy 12 1/2 years old Smallest dog: Kimm 3 lb. Biggest dog: Goliath 100 lb. Do you know where this is?
New Leaders Are Chosen At the Sweetpea meeting on June 25, 2003 officers were elected. The officers will serve a term of one year. New elections will be held at the next annual meeting in June 2004.
Outgoing President Sheila Vaidya-Dibb, was thanked for her two years of service as the first President of Sweetpea. Sheila will remain a board member. Melanie Kenadek, outgoing Vice President, resigned from the board due to time constraints. Lois Caputo was reelected to the office of Secretary. The office of treasurer had been vacant since an earlier resignation.
There's No Place Like Home On July 4, 2003 Rutland held its annual parade where Sweetpea entered their rendition of the "Wizard of Oz". Thanks to the hard work of Tom Dibb, Sheila Vaidya-Dibb, Steve Miller and the rest of the busy workers Sweetpea was awarded 1st place in the business division.
