Dog Walk, Saturday, April 29th., 2006SWEETPEA F.O.R. ANIMALS Inc. of Rutland MA is a non-profit, animal welfare organization with a no-kill policy dedicated to the rescue, care and placement of stray, abandoned and surrendered companion animals in central Massachusetts and beyond. There is no permanent shelter facility so all animals currently reside with the animal control officer, in foster homes or with the animal care program at Devereux School in Rutland .
The Fourth Annual Dog Walk held on April 2 th at the Rutland State Park is one of the fund raisers designed to generate capital towards the shelter fund. During registration mini-survival kits (bottled water, a snack and a dog treat) were distributed. Participants then walked with human friends or with their canine companions on either the 1 mile or the 3 mile course through the park’s shaded wooded trails.
Under sunny, blue skies, Volunteers prepared and served an appetizing barbecue lunch which was followed by a surprise 70 th birthday cake for Dick Clark. Dick is the president of Sweet Pea and has served Rutland as an animal control officer for 14 years.
There were vendor tables and a bake sale booth along with several raffle prizes generously donated by local citizens and merchants. Silver Lining Productions kindly provided the sound system and music for the event. Trophies were awarded in the following categories:
