Golf Tournament, August 2006

The Sweetpea 5th Annual Golf Tournament got off to a rousing beginning on Saturday, August 19th at the Quail Hollow Golf Club in Oakham, MA. With an 8:00am shotgun start to the straight scramble game, 36 golfers attempted to get through the 18 hole course by 1:00pm.

Mid-way through the course there was a quick stop at the clubhouse where the players shared beverages and compared notes, then continued on with the game.

Despite some predicaments including starting off in the wrong direction, a stiff early morning breeze on the 10th hole, and a runaway golf cart, all players completed the course in time to enjoy a delicious Italian buffet.

There were several items raffled off and a silent auction was held which included an insulated doghouse and a basketball signed by Bob Cousy, a legendary Celtic player. Tickets are still available for both raffles -- the Basketball will be raffled on September 15th., and the Doghouse on September 30th. Tickets can be obtained from Dick Clark (Phone: 508-886-6191 or eEmail: D20havedogs@aol.com), at Saveway Convience store, Main St. Rutland, or The Pampered Pet, on Pleasant St. in Paxton MA.

The members of Sweetpea FOR Animals, worked diligently to make this tournament a success.
At current count, the tournament raised more than $2,300 towards the shelter fund.

Many thanks to all the players, contributors and the staff of the Quail Hollow Golf Club whose efforts have taken us another step closer towards reaching our dream of providing a place of refuge for many of the region's homeless animals.
