Golf Tournament, August 2006 The Sweetpea 5th Annual Golf Tournament got off to a rousing beginning on Saturday, August 19th at the Quail Hollow Golf Club in Oakham, MA. With an 8:00am shotgun start to the straight scramble game, 36 golfers attempted to get through the 18 hole course by 1:00pm.
Mid-way through the course there was a quick stop at the clubhouse where the players shared beverages and compared notes, then continued on with the game.
Despite some predicaments including starting off in the wrong direction, a stiff early morning breeze on the 10th hole, and a runaway golf cart, all players completed the course in time to enjoy a delicious Italian buffet.
There were several items raffled off and a silent auction was held which included an insulated doghouse and a basketball signed by Bob Cousy, a legendary Celtic player. Tickets are still available for both raffles -- the Basketball will be raffled on September 15th., and the Doghouse on September 30th. The members of Sweetpea FOR Animals, worked diligently to make this tournament a success. Many thanks to all the players, contributors and the staff of the Quail Hollow Golf Club whose efforts have taken us another step closer towards reaching our dream of providing a place of refuge for many of the region's homeless animals.
